In February of 2019, Amanda Koch and Michael Meyer formed Palmetto Welding & Fabrication Services, LLC, based out of Summerville, South Carolina.
Amanda was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming. She has two children, Victoria and Lucas, and one grandson, Noah. In the spring of 2017 Amanda met Michael, who was in Wyoming lending his welding expertise as a contract welder to a company who manufactured mining truck beds. It was also in 2017 that the decision was made to relocate to the Charleston, South Carolina area. During the summer of 2018, Amanda, Michael, Amanda and Michael’s children and grandchild, as well as Amanda’s parents, relocated to Summerville, South Carolina. Amanda’s entire working career has been in administration and office management, primarily in the oil and gas industry. Upon arrival in South Carolina, Amanda began working as an office manager for a law firm in Charleston. Once Palmetto Welding & Fabrication Services, LLC was created, Amanda left her full-time job to help run and manage the business.
Michael was born and raised in Gainesville, Texas, a small town north of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex. He has four children; Kayla, Kylie, Lillian and Riley. In the spring of 2017, Michael traveled to Casper, Wyoming to contract weld for a company that manufactures mining truck beds. Michael met Amanda upon his arrival in Wyoming. Shortly after Michael and Amanda began dating, the decision was made to make an entire family migration to the Charleston, South Carolina area. During the summer of 2018, Michael, Amanda and family made the long move. Michael’s entire working career has been in the welding trade. He has lent his welding expertise to a multitude of industries, including oil and gas, marine, nuclear, automotive and structural. Michael is certified to weld all metals in all positions. Upon arrival in South Carolina, Michael began working for a large welding and fabrication facility in Summerville. It didn’t take Michael long to realize that the area had a need for skilled, affordable welding services for both production and mobile welding. Michael and Amanda brainstormed together and formed Palmetto Welding & Fabrication Services, LLC in February 2019. Michael left his full-time employment in April 2019 to provide full-time skilled welding for the business.
Michael is certified in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW, 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G and 6G. Our company handles all types of structural and miscellaneous metal fabrication and repair including aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel. We are licensed and insured and have the capability to service the entire region.
In January of 2020, we acquired a 9500 square foot facility on 2 acres. Our business model has morphed from a mobile welding company into a full blown miscellaneous and structural steel fabrication and erection company. We currently employ 17 skilled workers who are contributing to the rapid growth of our company. We will be expanding into a 30,000 square foot facility in the first quarter of 2022.
We are excited that we are now AISC certified in both fabrication and erection. These certifications enable us to participate in projects with some of the strictest quality control requirements. We continue to strive to adapt our business to the needs of our clients.
About The Meyers
M. Meyer – CEO/Owner
Michael Meyer began his working career at the age of 18 at Texas Steel in Denton, Texas where he would lay out, fit up, and weld structural and miscellaneous steel, as well as supervise a field crew of 5 men for erection and installation. After fourteen years at Texas Steel, he went on to be a foreman for Peerless Manufacturing in the Nuclear and Marine Departments, welding nuclear dryers and their associated components. Three years later, he began contract welding. During that time, he would fit and weld piping, vessels, and mining equipment. In 2019 Michael decided to partner with his wife Amanda and start Palmetto Welding & Fabrication Services, LLC.
A. Meyer – Vice President/ Owner
Amanda Meyer began her working career at the age of 17 as an Office Manager for a company called Koch Pavement Solutions. As time went on, she further developed her administrative capabilities by working for the County Planning and Building Department as and Administrative Coordinator. It was during this time that she assisted in maintaining the department budget, participated in Planning and County Commission meetings, perfected the ability to legally interpret government rules and regulations to enforce such and later, post-promotion, developed the ability to generate and utilize GIS data and maps.
Eventually Amanda moved on to become an Office Manager for two major oil companies where she handled the administration and management of EHS, HR, fleet, inventory, as well as other typical office management and administrative duties such as AP/AR, customer service, p-card management, minimal IT services, event planning and coordination, etc. In February 2019, Amanda made the decision to use her 20 years of experience in office management and open Palmetto Welding & Fabrication Services, LLC with her husband, Michael Meyer.
